You are the Captain of the Jamestown Colony: Can you do any better than the real colonists? You will have a copy of the London Company's Instructions to help guide you. Also, you can ask your fellow colonists and the Native Americans for advice. Be careful, though, because some advice is better than others!

iCivics
http://www.icivics.org/ iCivics (formerly Our Courts) is a web-based education project designed to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in our democracy. iCivics is the vision of Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, who is concerned that students are not getting the information and tools they need for civic participation, and that civics teachers need better materials and support.
Microsoft Excel (Grades 4-8)
Problem: Try using Microsoft Excel when students are not able to recall and summarize facts about historical figures and visualize trends that occur. Students can create a timeline of a historical figure and conduct an oral presentation of their timeline to peers. Visual and oral representation of facts make information more concrete for students.
Problem: When students can not make a connection with landmarks and geographical locations in other countries try using Google Earth http://www.google.com/earth/index.html Google Earth is a web 2.0 tool that allows end users to travel to various locations on earth and beyond(Moon, Mars and Sky). View 3-D buildings, ocean, and historical imagery view (travel back in time and view imagery from previous years). You will increase student motivation in subject matter. Integration Strategy: Students use online maps to find various historical landmarks. Students will learn about the geographical location of the landmark.
